Non-real-time Revealed by New Facebook Homepage
by Mike Levin SEO & Datamaster, 03/15/2009
With comments and posts that are internal to Facebook appearing in real-time now, all those external services that are hooked in ate looking awfully slow and crusty about now.
FriendFeed is the main offender, with all my Tweets, NewsGator and Google Reader shares news notifications demoted to second-class citizens. But also, the native Notes app that takes blog feeds is also unacceptably slow.
Because Facebook is becoming the focal-point for society (Twitter’s SMS approach is not necessary now with smart phones), services need to hook into Facebook status to provide instant real-time updates.
A 1-hour delay to see that I just published this post is lame.
