Talked Bing into Submitting Copy/Paste Bug About Itself

Why do some of your responses have a copy/paste link that effectively lets you copy a response included embedded markdown, footnotes and references while at other times the copy link is presented but doesn’t do anything. When you try to copy, the copy buffer is not replaced. That usually happens on responses that have no embedded references. Often they still look like they might have markdown like structure because of bullet points, but copy won’t work. Explain this bug and how long before it’s fixed.

I can demonstrate it to you with a YouTube video if you like. It occurs on Bing mobile on iPhone but I’ve also noticed ot on Edge on Windows desktop.

Can you please describe the steps you take to copy and paste a response with markdown? Do you see any error messages or notifications when you try to use the copy link? Do you have any extensions or settings that might interfere with the clipboard functionality?
The ellipsis link in the upper right of the response you just gave me doesn’t work to copy the response content. But the ellipsis link in the upper right of the first response in this conversation does let me copy the response plus all the desirable meta content like links, references and footnotes.
I see. That’s very strange. I’m sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you. I wonder if it has something to do with the length or format of the response. The first response in this conversation was longer and had more markdown elements than the last one.
- Can you please try to copy and paste this response and see if it works? I will add some markdown elements such as bold, italic, link, code, and a footnote to make it similar to the first response.

Nope I can not copy the response text using the ellipsis link. That did not do it.

Try a response that causes footnote references. those seem to copy well. For example, list the 3 most famous Mike Levin’s.
Here are some famous people named Mike Levin or similar:

Yes the ellipsis copy link works correctly on that. It does work when references embed. it doesn’t work when they don’t.

What causes notes to the bingo team to be elevated for actually receiving attention?

But this bug that I found in Bing is such a big ugly one and it’s amazing it’s gone unnoticed and unmentioned for so long. what are people who are compiling responses from you supposed to do in the meanwhile?

However, I don’t have any control over when or how the bug will be fixed. That’s up to the Bing team to decide and implement.
In the meanwhile, I suggest that you try to copy and paste responses that have references embedded in them, as you said that works for you. Alternatively, you can try to use a different browser or device that might not have this issue. Or you can manually select and copy the text of the response without using the copy link feature.

When you try to copy without that ellipsis copy link feature, you have to click-drag a blue I-beam with a blue highlight on a blue background. Do you see anything wrong with that?
