Gimp and Inkscape

Gimp Inkscape BlenderIn the process of re-positioning myself onto free and open source software (FOSS), one caveat I encountered was having to say goodbye to a couple of old friends: Photoshop and Illustrator. The time is right. I’ve just switched hardware so often, and have come to think of it as nearly disposable—but one of the big pain-points of the software re-install is going on a serial number hunt and being forced to be a pirate. Well, no friend of mine would make me do that, so I’m trying to get used to playing with a couple of new friends, and am finding out they’re not that bad. In fact, they have a third friend, who is someone I’ve been trying to meet: Blender. Now if only there were a FOSS alternative to Flash. Anyone?
