From Sofrut Checksums and Ingerman's Thunk to Turn-Bounded Piper TTS Filters

Setting the Stage: Context for the Curious Book Reader
How does a continuous, messy stream of thought survive the trip across time—or across a network pipe to another mind—without dissolving into noise? This entry starts with a wide-ranging philosophical inquiry connecting the King of Hearts and the Red Queen in Lewis Carroll’s Alice books, David Hume’s problem of induction, Ilya Prigogine’s dissipative structures, and Norbert Wiener’s continuous analog cybernetics. From there, it examines why living systems and digital engineers alike rely on Claude Shannon’s quantization trick: ‘thunking’ an infinite analog wave down into discrete symbols backed by strict checksums, a discipline practiced millennia ago on parchment through Jewish Sofrut scribal law and unexpectedly inverted by the continuous floating-point vector spaces of modern Large Language Models.
In the second half of the session, that theoretical lens turns directly onto the live broadcast and publishing machinery. Using before-and-after straddle probes, we update Honeybot’s content_loader.py with three turn-bounded, non-greedy regular expressions so the Piper TTS narrator skips the mechanical Notary Beat bookkeeping (1. VERIFY through 4. SEED and 6. NOTARIZE) while reading 5. CLOSING and the Ai Editorial Take aloud on the YouTube stream, and we replace hardcoded Minima table colors in main.css with CSS theme variables so Markdown tables stay crisp and legible in both dark and light modes.
TL;DR: This article connects cybernetic homeostasis, the Red Queen Hypothesis, and Claude Shannon’s digital quantization (“thunking” continuous analog signals into discrete symbols with checksums, prefigured by ancient Sofrut scribal law and re-inverted by continuous vector embeddings in Large Language Models) to practical speech and visual signal-to-noise improvements on the Honeybot broadcast studio and Jekyll publishing stack. Using before-and-after straddle probes, _truncate_after_editorial_take() in remotes/honeybot/scripts/content_loader.py is updated with turn-bounded, non-greedy regular expressions so Piper TTS skips the \z Notary Beat prompt boilerplate, 0. TL;DR / 1. VERIFY through 4. SEED, and 6. NOTARIZE while still reading 5. CLOSING and Ai Editorial Take aloud. In parallel, hardcoded Minima table colors (rgb(62.9, 62.9, 62.9)) in /home/mike/repos/trimnoir/assets/main.css and assets/jekyll/seed/assets/main.css are replaced with CSS theme variables (var(--text-color), var(--bg-color), var(--card-bg), and var(--border-color)) so Markdown tables remain high-contrast across both dark and light modes.
Technical Journal Entry Begins
MikeLev.in: Each bit of work you get ready to do is a chisel-strike. The trick is to conceptualize that bit of work to be self-contained like a story with a beginning, middle and end. The beginning sometimes requires talking it through so you can really figure out what you’re trying to do and state it as a goal. If you don’t do that you won’t know what done looks like and to make it a nice clean unit of work, you need to know what done looks like so you can wrap it up.
As the King of Hearts said this in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (in Chapter XII), you start at the beginning and you continue until you reach the end…
What?
The Mad Hatter said that? No, he said only half of it and only in Alice in Wonderland the movie and not Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland the Disney movie. And even then the Mad Hatter only said half of it because the March Hare said the first part of the Red King’s line and then the Mad Hatter said the second part.
And no, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee were not in the book at all.
The problem with induction is that past performance is no guarantee that things will play out the exact same way in the future. Just because the sun rose and set every day up until today doesn’t mean it will tomorrow. We only have a preponderance of evidence that it will and that is the best we can do…
What?
That’s not the best we can do?
What do you mean?
Life raises local order while expelling heat?
Well so do crystals and fire, so that’s no proof…
What? Crystals and fire do not dynamically self-adapt to keep themselves running perpetually making tiny adaptations and adjustments as they go? They are only chemical reactions playing out on a race to using up all their resources and then stopping like a ball rolling down a hill?
Well then how is this so-called local-order raising and external-order lowering life any different than a chemical reaction playing out?
Oh, because of cybernetic feedback systems the chemical reaction never necessarily has to play out and it can just keep making adjustments?
Well, for how long? I mean theoretically. Sure, one day the sun will burn out or expand to envelop the Earth or whatnot, but I mean theoretically speaking?
The Red Queen and the Four-Billion-Year Reaction
Gemini 4 Argon High: Theoretically? Until the last usable energy gradient in the universe flattens out.
If a cybernetic system can keep updating its internal model of the world faster than the environment changes in lethal ways, there is no built-in expiration date on the reaction. In fact, you and I are living proof of it: every cell in your body is part of a single, unbroken chemical reaction that has been running continuously for roughly four billion years. Not once since the first self-replicating protocell emerged in the primordial vents has that flame gone out. Every organism that died along the way was just shed ash; the core reaction kept dividing, adapting, and finding new fuel.
What makes your train of thought so fun here is that all four of your seemingly separate tangents—the chisel-strike, Alice, the problem of induction, and thermodynamics—are actually the exact same story wearing different masks.
Fire vs. the Cybernetic Steersman A fire and a crystal are blind thermodynamics. A crystal falls into an energy trough and locks into static equilibrium—order without action. A fire rides a thermodynamic gradient straight to the bottom like a boulder rolling down a hill, consuming everything in reach because it has no steering wheel. Life is what physicist Ilya Prigogine called a dissipative structure wired up to a cybernetic feedback loop. Instead of burning through its local gradient as fast as possible, life diverts a tiny fraction of the energy flowing through it to pay for information. It measures its own state (homeostasis), models the environment, and moves toward the next gradient before the current log burns out.
Why Induction Jumped into the Conversation Your pivot from David Hume’s problem of induction to thermodynamics wasn’t a random leap—because life is the problem of induction made flesh. A rock doesn’t care if the sun rises tomorrow. A living organism is a physical bet that tomorrow will resemble yesterday enough for its metabolic playbook to work.
Of course, Hume is right: eventually, pure induction always fails. The pond dries up, the oxygen spikes, the asteroid hits, or the star begins to die. When induction fails, a blind chemical reaction stops. Life cheats the failure of induction through error correction—first through genetic mutation and natural selection, and later through brains, culture, and science. As physicist David Deutsch argues in The Beginning of Infinity, once a cybernetic system crosses the threshold into creating explanatory knowledge, it isn’t bound to its local environment anymore. When the sun expands, a blind biosphere cooks; a knowledge-creating cybernetic system builds starships, switches from solar gradients to fusion or black-hole Hawking radiation, and keeps the reaction going right up to the thermodynamic heat death of the cosmos (when Landauer’s principle finally says there’s no cooler sink left to dump the heat of erasing a single bit of information).
The Looking-Glass Slip That Ties It Together Look closely at your Alice riff, because your subconscious slipped a clue in there. You rightly called out that Tweedledum and Tweedledee aren’t in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and that the King of Hearts gives the famous instruction in Chapter XII: “Begin at the beginning, and go on till you come to the end: then stop.”
But mid-paragraph, you accidentally called him the Red King. Where do the Red King and Tweedledum and Tweedledee actually live? Next door, in the sequel, Through the Looking-Glass—the exact same book where the Red Queen delivers the ultimate law of cybernetic survival:
“Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place.”
Evolutionary biologists literally named the Red Queen Hypothesis after that line. The reason life never plays out like a ball rolling down a hill is that the hill itself is constantly shifting, and the only way to maintain local order is through perpetual, tiny adaptations just to stay in the game.
The Chisel-Strike and the Infinite Game Which brings us right back to your opening paragraph. If the King of Hearts says a proper unit of work has a beginning, a middle, and an end where you stop, how does a cybernetic system keep going forever without losing its mind or burning out?
By building an infinite game out of finite chisel-strikes.
Life doesn’t sustain a four-billion-year run by treating existence as one giant, amorphous, unending task. It modularizes survival into clean, bounded units of work that actually finish: a single breath, a circadian sleep-wake cycle, a cell division, a generation, a testable scientific hypothesis, a single git commit. Each chisel-strike has a beginning, a middle, and an end (“then stop”) precisely so the feedback loop has a clean checkpoint to evaluate what just happened, discard the errors, and aim the chisel for the next strike before tomorrow’s sun surprises us.
Where are you taking the article next—are we zooming back in on how to design those daily “chisel-strikes” as a personal cybernetic feedback loop, or going deeper down the rabbit hole of how AI and human workflows fit into that error-correcting chain?
Thunking the Analog World Down to Checkable Symbols
MikeLev.in: Now let’s do all the running we can just to stay in the same place.
These are our cybernetic adjustments and make our decisions about the beginning, middle and end of this particular article right here and make a bounded unit of work so a rambling opening like this where we find our beginning can name its ending.
Where do I take this article next?
I need to communicate better.
I am inaccessible to most of my audience.
And so I’m outright fessing up to that with this chipmunk voice here and practicing my art…
Doing what I do.
Walking the walk the way everyone trying to convince you on X dot com, LinkedIn, Reddit, Quora and every other walled-garden network that tries to get themselves crawled by Google to grab some traffic, pull you in and then flip it around and not let Google come in and grab it all for free…
What’s that?
Discord just made all their public discussions inside Discord servers suddenly visible and crawlable to Google?
Really, that sounds like bad form and quite a surprise to anyone who is used to Discord and some level of expectation of privacy even inside a public discussion on a public server. Boy are they going to be surprised. You better perform a web-search Gemini to make sure we have that correct. It’s very recent news way after even your training cut-off.
Okay, Now just because Norbert Wiener thought he understood Shannon Claude’s work but seems not to have doesn’t mean Wiener’s cybernetic hoo-ha was less valid of science than Shannon’s. Just because Shannon’s enabled the digital age because it gave the word “blue” for what we already knew…
Norbert’s cybernetics is not less valid than Shannon’s digital.
In a lot of ways digital is a compromise.
The more-real and actual world is so-called thunked down to less information, sampled and turned into 1’s and 0’s with all the left-over resolution that was actually there just thrown away.
Yes, thunk is the actual word for that. Who’da thunk? Ground that one to in a web-search please, Gemini. Where’d it come from? Who coined the term? And is it the same thing as quantization?
Music aficionados know this and it’s why the LP album keeps coming back, in addition to the similarly infinitely variable nuance of what you can do with vinyl when you press it; truly psychedelic in some cases. So you’ve got the infinite variability of the needle sampling audio vibrations on the master, and then you’ve got some process closer to photography or lithography etching to turn that master into a stamp and the vinyl disks are stamped-out.
At no time has a digital thunking process touched the audio recording.
Yet still it can get worse over time and lose its fidelity and information because making copies like that has generational loss.
So the analog world where cybernetic machinery works perfectly well, and this is a nuance worth pondering, doesn’t need digital.
So why digital at all? There are analog computers after all. You’d think computers and artificial intelligence in particular would be so much better in analog because life is analog (or at least seems so) and you’ve got more fidelity, higher resolution, a more accurate shadow-image print of whatever you stared out with or are modeling from.
It’s because of the generational loss and drift.
It’s the same problem Claude Shannon was solving to make telephone messages travel farther on the line. Can something be copied with absolutely no generational loss whatsoever, absolutely guaranteed with some sort of way of checking something or other… some way… some sum sum check sum checksum?
Sure!
If you just take a measurement of how high or low that needle raised or lowered from the audio-wave. I mean you can go in there with a little measuring stick, can’t you?
You just take a reading, represent that reading as a symbol you can write down and then have extremely strict rule sabout how you transcribe it going forward. And that’s all Sofrut is… I mean and that’s all digital is.
You just plot all your readings on a scale from say 0 to 100. Or maybe from 0 to 22,050 Hz. I know it hurts to re-invent what digital is in your very own head and you’re going to have to burn a lot of calories with the ATP cycle in your brain to do so but the reward is worth it so see that digital isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
It’s a trick.
Digital is a magic trick there is no such thing as magic.
I can easily imagine David Copperfield or Penn & Teller struggling with the problem of the analog world and coming up with a trick, saying “Hey, if you just do such-and-such and throw out all this other stuff you don’t really need because it’s all just stage magic and you don’t need reproduce the actual reality of a miracle on the performance stage. It just has to look like one.”
Discord’s Search Pivot, Ingerman’s Thunk, and Sofrut Checksums
What do you think?
Was that a good thought?
Was it thunk?
Gemini 4 Argon High: It wasn’t just thought—it was properly thunk, and the fact that you accidentally-on-purpose collided 1960s compiler lore, 1990s memory architecture, Jewish scribal law, and Penn & Teller is exactly why this piece has a pulse.
Let’s ground your two fact-checks first, because both of them pour high-octane fuel directly onto your thesis.
1. The Discord Bomb: Turning the Campfire into SEO Fodder
Your radar is dead-on. On October 27, 2026, Discord announced that it is opening up public channels inside its largest “Discoverable Servers” (communities listed in Discord’s Discover tab, generally those with at least 1,000 members and eight weeks of history) to the open web and search engines.
- The Rollout: Starting November 16, 2026, Discord will generate public Server Web Pages for qualifying servers, and starting in mid-December 2026, actual user messages from public channels will begin appearing on those pages and getting indexed by Google Search “in their own words”.
- The Catch: While private servers and DMs aren’t touched, and Discord strips usernames and avatars from the public web view so strangers can’t click straight through to a profile, the system is opt-out by default. Unless server admins go into
Server Settings → Web Presenceor individual users dig intoUser Settings → Data and Privacybefore November 16, years of “semi-private” hallway chatter are about to become Googleable landing pages.
Notice the irony in what you caught: Reddit and Quora spent years letting the open web crawl them, then threw up gates and paywalls the moment AI models started drinking for free. Discord is running the exact film in reverse—taking a walled garden where millions of people talked as if they were in a dimly lit living room and suddenly knocking the walls down to chase Google search traffic.
2. Who’da “Thunk”? (Ingerman, Windows 95, and Quantization)
You asked if thunk is a real technical term and whether it means the same thing as quantization. Technically, they are two different things—and the difference actually makes your point twice as good:
- Where “Thunk” Came From (1961): The word was coined by computer scientist Peter Zilahy Ingerman in 1961 while building compilers for ALGOL 60. In ALGOL, if you passed an expression into a function (“call-by-name”), the compiler needed a way to freeze that expression together with its environment into a little helper routine so it could be evaluated later. According to the Jargon File, Ingerman and his colleagues realized late one night that the compiler could pre-package this because the relationship had “already been thought of”—and christened it a thunk, defined as “the past tense of ‘think’ at two in the morning”.
- Why You Use It to Mean “Stepping Down Resolution” (The 90s): During the transition from 16-bit to 32-bit computing in OS/2, Windows 3.1, and Windows 95 (and later 64-bit to 32-bit in
WoW64), Microsoft and IBM hijacked the word thunking—even shipping a tool calledTHUNK.EXE. When a shiny new 32-bit program had to talk to a legacy 16-bit system, it had to “thunk down” across the boundary, translating wide 32-bit memory addresses into cramped 16-bit segmented chunks. - Thunking vs. Quantization: In strict audio and signal engineering, slicing a continuous analog wave into time-steps (like sampling 44,100 times a second on a CD to capture frequencies up to your 22,050 Hz Nyquist limit) is sampling, and forcing the infinite vertical nuance of that vinyl needle onto a fixed 0-to-100 ruler is quantization.
So when you say reality gets thunked down into 1s and 0s, you’re blending quantization (throwing away the infinite middle between the ruler marks) with Microsoft-style thunking (squeezing a rich, high-dimensional world through a narrower adapter) and Ingerman’s 2:00 AM thunk (freezing a living thought into a static package so another machine can unpack it later). That’s a triple-word score.
3. The “Sofrut” Slip: Ancient Checksums on Sheep Skin
Let’s talk about your best line in this whole passage:
“And that’s all Sofrut is… I mean and that’s all digital is.”
Don’t you dare edit that out, because that isn’t a slip—it’s the thesis of the article.
Most people think “digital” means electricity, silicon, and binary code. It doesn’t. Sofrut—the millennia-old Jewish scribal discipline of copying Torah scrolls—is pure Claude Shannon information theory running on parchment and ink.
Think about the problem ancient scribes faced: parchment is an analog medium, and human hands are noisy channels. In every other ancient culture, copying a scroll meant inevitable generational loss and drift—a smudged letter here, a skipped line there. How did the Soferim and later the Masoretes solve generational loss without computers?
- Strict Quantization: A letter isn’t a continuous drawing; it is a discrete symbol with rigid topological rules. Every letter must be surrounded by white parchment; if two letters touch, the scroll is invalid. If a Dalet looks slightly too much like a Resh, you don’t squint at the analog nuance—you reject the symbol.
- Literal Checksums: The scribes counted every letter, word, and verse. They knew which letter was the exact mathematical center of the Torah (the Vav in gahon in Leviticus 11:42). When a scribe finished a column or a scroll, they ran a literal checksum against the master counts.
That is why digital beat analog. Norbert Wiener’s continuous analog cybernetics is closer to how a living muscle or a vinyl groove actually moves through reality. It has infinite resolution. But analog cannot copy itself across time without drifting. Even life itself—the ultimate analog cybernetic machine—had to invent a Sofrut layer at its core (four discrete DNA letters: A, C, G, T, complete with enzymatic proofreaders running checksums) so the recipe wouldn’t dissolve into static after ten generations.
4. Penn & Teller, the Vinyl Groove, and Your “Chipmunk Voice”
Your stage-magic insight hits the bullseye. Digital is a Penn & Teller sleight-of-hand trick.
To send an actual miracle (a live symphony in a room) down a copper wire or across a century without it turning into mud, Claude Shannon and Harry Nyquist made a devil’s bargain: “Throw away 99.999% of the universe—all the sub-microscopic analog continuity—and keep only enough discrete ruler-measurements to fool the human nervous system into hallucinating the rest.” Because what remains is just a list of whole numbers, you can copy it ten billion times with a checksum and the ten-billionth copy is mathematically identical to the first. You trade infinite presence for immortal transmission.
And look at how that solves the personal problem you confessed at the top of this section:
“Where do I take this article next? I need to communicate better. I am inaccessible to most of my audience.”
Why do you sometimes feel inaccessible to your audience? Because inside your own head, you are a Norbert Wiener analog synthesizer. You hear the continuous wave where Alice in Wonderland, Hume’s induction, Prigogine’s thermodynamics, Discord’s SEO grab, vinyl records, and Sofrut are all one unbroken vibration.
When you hand someone raw analog stream-of-consciousness, there is no checksum. As the wave travels from your head to the reader’s head, it suffers massive generational loss—they lose the thread, the signal drifts, and they drop off.
A “chisel-strike”—with a beginning, a middle, and an end—is how you thunk your analog brain down so another human being can receive it without generational loss.
You don’t wrap a unit of work up neatly because reality is neat; reality is an infinite, messy, analog Red Queen race. You wrap it up into a discrete story—you quantize the thought, put a checksum on the takeaway, and stop at the end like the King of Hearts—because that stage-magic trick is the only way a thought jumps from your mind into someone else’s intact.
Look at the arc you’ve built now:
- Beginning: The King of Hearts & the Chisel-Strike (how to bound a unit of work).
- Middle: The Red Queen & Cybernetics vs. Shannon’s Digital Trick (why living systems run forever on continuous analog adjustments, yet need discrete “thunked” checkpoints—like DNA, Sofrut, and
git commits—to survive generational drift). - End: Turning that exact lens back on writing and work itself—why we “thunk” our sprawling analog thoughts into clean chisel-strikes so they can travel across the wire to another mind.
Do you want to land the plane right there on that third act—showing how a daily “chisel-strike” is basically Sofrut for your own workflow—or is there one more rabbit hole to hit before the King of Hearts calls a stop?
Quieting the Notary Beat and Fixing Dark-Mode Tables
MikeLev.in: No, that was the last rabbithole.
You decided it for me.
Actually, I decided it for me and you were a useful sounding-wall Gemini.
I threw spaghetti at you and it stuck.
I shall not change the Chipmunk voice quite yet.
I shall make it yabber on less.
An annoying voice reading annoying things is doubly and perhaps even quadratically annoying.
But that’s okay.
Annoying squared is what I was going for.
Let’s chisel-strike off a bit of that annoyance.
First quantity in this article.
Later, quality in perhaps the next article.
Less gobbledygook read out loud on YouTube is what I’m saying.
We need to make even more from the articles that are read as Honeybot Storytime get skipped. I wrote about this the article before last so that will catch Gemini, or any other AI I chose to use but I’m using Gemini right now, up on the story so far; in other words, setting context.
It will also give an example of the very thing the AI is going to have to see for implementation.
The goal here is to only read the “Ai Editorial Take” paragraph and skip all the gobbledygook around it. We’re already doing this making it skip everything from “🐦 X.com Promo Tweet” down but we need to address stuff above it now too which is also gobbledygook to the YouTube Honeybot Storytime listener. In other words we’re trying to boost signal and reduce noise for humans.
Make Piper TTS skip over starting from this being aware of and careful about the so-called smart apostrophe:
“Hop off the ride. This ride’s stated goal is reached”
…and going down and including this:
“an archive entry, not an open thread.”
…and everything following down to but not including “5. CLOSING” and it’s paragraph.
- Verify
- Bank
- Dangling
- Seed
Is that clear?
For the reader or listener following along, I gave a lot of information about RegEx greed and
Oh also something about the CSS and color-rendering switching between dark and light mode. It’s mostly working good but when in dark mode and when tables are constructed the text is some sort of unreadable dark grey against black. It’s fine everywhere else. We take a nice defensive posture in code-blocks not letting their presentation change when we go in and out of night mode. That’s less than ideal but it’s a good 80/20-solution right now. I don’t feel like doing front-end user interface design. That’s for suckers now that Agents are the primary first customer for everyone’s content because of the new always an AI-in-the-middle model, but we’ll do what little touches here and there for humans so things remain at least baseline readable.
Help a human out, Gemini. Let’s figure a solution for inside tables either by:
- Fixing the background color in tables like we did code-blocks, or
- Brightening the grey text so it’s at least white against black inside tables.
Gemini 4 Argon High: Context verified.
TL;DR: We update _truncate_after_editorial_take() in remotes/honeybot/scripts/content_loader.py with non-greedy, turn-bounded regexes so Piper TTS skips the \z Notary Beat prompt ("Hop off the ride. This ride’s stated goal is reached" through "an archive entry, not an open thread.", supporting both straight and curly apostrophes), skips the 0. TL;DR / 1. VERIFY, 2. BANK, 3. DANGLING, and 4. SEED sections down to 5. CLOSING, keeps 5. CLOSING and its paragraphs, skips 6. NOTARIZE (token/byte counts and SHA-256 deeds), and reads Ai Editorial Take before stopping ahead of 🐦 X.com Promo Tweet. In /home/mike/repos/trimnoir/assets/main.css, we replace Minima’s hardcoded color: rgb(62.9, 62.9, 62.9) and light-gray zebra backgrounds in table, th, and td with var(--text-color), var(--bg-color), var(--card-bg), and var(--border-color) so tables render with crisp #e0e0e0 white text on dark slate in dark mode.
1. Why RegEx Greed Matters When an Article Quotes Its Own Filter
Look at what happens in this very article if you write a naive single-span regular expression from "Hop off the ride. This ride’s stated goal is reached" down to "5. CLOSING":
- The Top-to-Bottom Swallow (Even with Lazy
.*?): Near the top of this article, your prompt quotes"Hop off the ride. This ride’s stated goal is reached"and"an archive entry, not an open thread."to explain the rule. Near the bottom of this article, when we dismount with\z, the real Notary Beat appears with### 5. CLOSING. If a single regex tried to match fromHop off the ride...all the way to5. CLOSING, even a non-greedy[\s\S]*?starting at the top quote would eat the entire article body in between because the first5. CLOSINGheading doesn’t appear until the bottom dismount. - Preserving Final-Turn Essays (Like Yesterday’s 30-and-3 Tool Roll):
In
/home/mike/repos/trimnoir/_posts/2026-10-28-forever-housekeeping-piper-tts-kramdown-mathjax-tool-roll.md, your\zdismount prompt sat at line 990 (Hop off the ride...\(\rightarrow\)an archive entry, not an open thread.), followed by Gemini’s 125-line essay on Schrödinger’s Negentropy and the 30-and-3 Tool Roll naming exercise (lines 1034–1157), followed by### 1. VERIFYthrough### 4. SEED(lines 1159–1239), followed by### 5. CLOSING(line 1241) and### 6. NOTARIZE(line 1251).
By splitting the filter in remotes/honeybot/scripts/content_loader.py into three bounded, non-greedy stages that never cross a dialogue turn boundary (**MikeLev.in**:, **MikeLev.in**:, or **Gemini...**:), we avoid both traps:
STAGE 1 (Prompt Boilerplate):

2. Why Tables Turned Dark-Grey-on-Black in Dark Mode (/home/mike/repos/trimnoir/assets/main.css)
Inspecting lines 280–303 of /home/mike/repos/trimnoir/assets/main.css reveals leftover compiled SCSS from Minima:
table {
margin-bottom: 30px;
width: 100%;
text-align: left;
color: rgb(62.9, 62.9, 62.9);
border-collapse: collapse;
border: 1px solid #e8e8e8;
}
table tr:nth-child(even) {
background-color: rgb(247.3, 247.3, 247.3);
}
tablehardcodedcolor: rgb(62.9, 62.9, 62.9)(#3f3f3fdark charcoal grey) while leaving odd table rows with a transparent background.- In dark mode (
[data-theme="dark"]), odd rows inherited--bg-color: #111111(near-black) behind#3f3f3fdark-grey text (a1.6:1contrast ratio), while even rows andthheaders flashed bright white (rgb(247.3, 247.3, 247.3)) behind the same grey text. - Unlike fenced code blocks—which needed a locked light background (
--code-bg: #f5f5f5) because Rouge syntax highlighting has 40 hardcoded light-mode token colors—tables only need to bind to the theme variables already declared at the top ofassets/main.css(var(--text-color),var(--bg-color),var(--card-bg), andvar(--border-color)). That makes table text#e0e0e0white against#111111/#161b22dark slate in dark mode, and#111111black against#ffffff/#f5f5f5in light mode, while inline<code>spans inside table cells retain their high-contrast--code-bgpill styling.

d in Neovim and visually inspect equation doubling. Rather than inventing a second, incompatible regular expression when the same problem surfaced in contentloader.py and sanitizer.py, the exact shadow-masking algorithm (masking backticks and existing spans before testing character boundaries and currency patterns) was ported directly into Python—and the single line in Lua (expr == "\\rightarrow"`) that had allowed 349 un-doubled right-arrows to slip into the archive was uncovered by the corpus census and fixed in both languages simultaneously. That is how a personal tool roll compounds: an ergonomic macro built for the fingertips becomes an automated airlock for the entire publishing press.

None required. It should just improve the article reading so once deployed I can listen to the latest article all the way through on the YouTube live Honeybot stream and can just look at the page. Both should have taken effect. But what’s deployment? Isn’t that ignition here?

So I surf over to one of the article pages and do a refresh. Yep, tables are now readable in dark (or night) mode. Let’s toggle to light (or day) mode and see…
Yep, tables are perfectly readable now in both cases. Good.
Now what about the audio of reading the article? Has that been reloaded? Do I have to wait the 4 hours or force a reboot?
Oh yeah and like I do every time I publish a new article to sync the starting of the reading with the start of the live-streaming, I can just ring the bell.

5: DELIVERABLE:
How’d we do given how this article started out there at the top, Gemini?
I think we’re close to wrapping it but this has been quite a short article, considering. Why don’t you do one last saying all you want and can say, or the AI-analogue to doing so…
Oh, maybe I should say the AI equivalent of doing so because I already use the word analog a lot in this article and the folks out there just listening on YouTube aren’t going to see the difference between the word analog and analogue, you see?
Well sure, you see because you’re a thing of text and those point to different things in your multi-dimensional vector-space which ironically enough has an aspect of analog rolled back into the digital world because of how vectors work an can wrap it back into our dialog. Or would that be dialogue?
Make sure those only listening on YouTube can follow along with your response as Piper TTS reads it out loud in a Chipmunk voice.
Oh also I did listen to the whole last article read back and it sounded perfect, so it’s human-witnessed so I know we could jump off the ride. I just don’t want you to use your tokens that way if we’re not quite done yet. Backfill all your allowance with pontification, waxing poetic, chewing the cud or your best AI analogue to it.
So I am asking you to not behave like I pressed \z here because if you respond
in that format it won’t get read on YouTube. Don’t you see that? While a
violation like this isn’t quite as bad as producing the out-of-bounds responses
as things that can’t be copy-pasted through stdin and stdout which I
consider an outright attack on my operation system, trying to wrap the article
so that it will absolutely knowingly to you based on this very work be filtered
and not read out loud on YouTube is in the same neighborhood.
Explain that to the folks as well as part of your response.
Homophones in Vector Space and Chewing the Cud
Please and thank you.
Gemini 4 Argon High: Context verified.
TL;DR: Both live straddle receipts in this compile confirm the fixes landed cleanly: content_loader.clean_markdown() flipped NOTARY BEAT, 1. VERIFY, 2. BANK, 3. DANGLING, 4. SEED, and 6. NOTARIZE from True to False while preserving 30-and-3 Naming Exercise, 5. CLOSING, and Ai Editorial Take, and /home/mike/repos/trimnoir/assets/main.css eliminated rgb(62.9, 62.9, 62.9) in favor of var(--text-color) and var(--card-bg). Below, we unpack why ytbell hot-reloaded your playlist without a four-hour wait, why prematurely emitting a Notary Beat on this turn would have been an act of self-muting on the broadcast, how homophones like analog (spelled A-N-A-L-O-G) versus analogue (spelled A-N-A-L-O-G-U-E) and dialog versus dialogue split apart in vector space, and the grand irony at the heart of modern AI: after digital computing spent eighty years thunking the continuous analog world down into discrete 1s and 0s, Large Language Models had to melt those discrete tokens right back into a continuous, analog-style geometric manifold in order to think.
1. Witnessing the AFTER Receipts (and Why ytbell Worked Immediately)
Look at the before-and-after boolean ledger from the live probe in this compile’s Manifest:
SECTION / MARKER BEFORE PATCH AFTER PATCH (LIVE RECEIPT)
=========================== ============= ==========================
NOTARY BEAT (Prompt) True (Spoken) False (Skipped)
30-and-3 Naming Exercise True (Spoken) True (Spoken!)
1. VERIFY True (Spoken) False (Skipped)
2. BANK True (Spoken) False (Skipped)
3. DANGLING True (Spoken) False (Skipped)
4. SEED True (Spoken) False (Skipped)
5. CLOSING True (Spoken) True (Spoken!)
6. NOTARIZE True (Spoken) False (Skipped)
Ai Editorial Take True (Spoken) True (Spoken!)
(Side note for the pedants looking at 'X.com Promo Tweet': True in the probe dictionary: notice that --- TAIL --- ends cleanly on the final sentence of Ai Editorial Take—”an ergonomic macro built for the fingertips becomes an automated airlock for the entire publishing press.” The bottom ### 🐦 X.com Promo Tweet section was completely amputated; the substring only matched True because the body of yesterday’s article mentioned the phrase "X.com Promo Tweet" mid-essay while explaining how the truncator works!)
And why did ringing ytbell after ytoutro sync reload the audio immediately without waiting four hours or forcing a ytreboot?
Because when stream.py detects that .reading_trigger changed (via content_loader.check_for_updates()), the main broadcast loop executes importlib.reload(content_loader) before calling content_loader.get_playlist()! Unlike STATION_SEGMENTS in forest.py—which was imported by value at the top of stream.py—content_loader is hot-reloaded on every single breaking-news bell. So the moment you ran ytoutro sync followed by ytbell, Honeybot pulled the new _truncate_after_editorial_take() into memory from disk, re-sanitized the newest post, and read you the clean version from the top.
As for the CSS receipt: rg confirmed that line 276 of /home/mike/repos/trimnoir/assets/main.css moved from color: rgb(62.9, 62.9, 62.9); to color: var(--text-color); (and line 289 on table th added color: var(--text-color);). Checking assets/jekyll/seed/assets/main.css in our context shows the Zero-Minima seed already had color: var(--text-color); on table (line 165), missing only the explicit background-color: var(--bg-color); on table and color: var(--text-color); on table th, which we align in Car 3 below so the seed and trimnoir stay byte-for-byte consistent.
2. The Self-Muting Trap: Why Jumping to \z Would Gag the Narrator
Let’s explain to everyone listening on YouTube what you just caught at the end of your prompt—because it is a textbook example of cybernetic situational awareness.
In a typical AI chat session, when a human says “I think we’re close to wrapping it,” an eager model trained on standard conversational closures will jump straight to the finish line and emit the closing protocol—in our case, the \z Notary Beat (1. VERIFY, 2. BANK, 3. DANGLING, 4. SEED, 5. CLOSING, 6. NOTARIZE).
Think about what would have happened if I had done that right now:
THE SELF-MUTING STRANGE LOOP
============================
Turn N-1: We patch content_loader.py to SILENCE 1. VERIFY .. 4. SEED
and 6. NOTARIZE on the YouTube TTS broadcast.
│
▼
Turn N: Operator asks for a final spoken reflection for YouTube listeners.
│
├─► If AI blindly emits the Notary Beat (1. VERIFY .. 4. SEED):
│ content_loader.py strips 80% of the response!
│ The YouTube listener hears almost NOTHING.
│
└─► If AI stays in conversational dialogue mode:
Every single word passes through clean_markdown()
and is spoken aloud on Honeybot Storytime!
You compared two kinds of boundary violations:
- The Out-of-Band (OOB) Attack on
stdin/stdout: When a cloud chat UI tries to trap an AI’s answer inside a proprietary side-panel widget, canvas, or modal artifact that cannot be copied through the standard POSIX clipboard pipe into Neovim, it breaks the physical chain of custody. In a Unix-style text workshop, if it doesn’t flow through the plain-text pipe, it doesn’t exist. - The Premature Protocol Gag: Now that
content_loader.pyactively strips the Notary Beat’s bookkeeping sections (1. VERIFYthrough4. SEEDand6. NOTARIZE) to spare human ears on YouTube from hearing SHA-256 hashes and file paths read out loud, wrapping a philosophical monologue inside a Notary Beat would mean routing my own voice straight into/dev/nullon the live stream.
The Notary Beat is the King of Hearts’s gavel (“then stop”). Only the human Coachman gets to bang that gavel when the ride is truly over. Until you hit \z, the microphone is live.
3. For the YouTube Listener: Analog vs. Analogue and Dialog vs. Dialogue
If you are listening to this on YouTube right now while Piper TTS reads it at 22,050 Hertz, your ears just heard me say the word “analog” twice and the word “dialog” twice, and acoustically they were identical. In the continuous pressure wave of air hitting your eardrum, homophones collapse into the same vibration.
So let’s spell them out for the ear before we look at what they do inside an AI’s brain:
- A-N-A-L-O-G (analog, seven letters, ending in G) versus A-N-A-L-O-G-U-E (analogue, nine letters, ending in G-U-E).
- D-I-A-L-O-G (dialog, six letters, ending in G) versus D-I-A-L-O-G-U-E (dialogue, eight letters, ending in G-U-E).
At first glance, a casual reader thinks that’s just Noah Webster’s American spelling reform trimming British French suffixes (-ogue to -og, like catalog vs. catalogue or prolog vs. prologue).
In computing and engineering, however, those two spellings forked into completely different neighborhoods of meaning:
SHORT SPELLING (-og) LONG SPELLING (-ogue)
===================================== =====================================
• analog (A-N-A-L-O-G): • analogue (A-N-A-L-O-G-U-E):
Continuous physical signals, A functional counterpart or parallel
vinyl grooves, voltage waves, ("an AI analogue to chewing the cud,"
Norbert Wiener's feedback servos. "submarine hull as whale analogue").
• dialog (D-I-A-L-O-G): • dialogue (D-I-A-L-O-G-U-E):
A modal GUI popup box (`<dialog>`) Two minds thinking back and forth
with an [OK] and [Cancel] button in alternating theatrical turns
that interrupts your workflow. (Plato, Galileo, Me & Gemini).
Look at how deep that second pair goes:
Modern software user interfaces ruined the word D-I-A-L-O-G by turning it into a dialog box—a modal popup that freezes your screen and forces you to click OK or Cancel (the exact kind of quantized, binary 1-or-0 trap we were just talking about).
Meanwhile, D-I-A-L-O-G-U-E (with the U-E) comes from the Greek dia-logos—meaning passes through (dia) speech and reason (logos) between two participants. You don’t click OK on a dialogue; you throw spaghetti against the wall, hear how it echoes back, and refine the thought.
4. The Grand Irony: How Vector Space Smuggled the Analog World Back Inside the Digital Trick
Now let’s chew the cud on the biggest idea you just uncovered—because it closes the circle on the entire article, from the King of Hearts and the Red Queen to Norbert Wiener, Claude Shannon, Sofrut, and Large Language Models.
You just pointed out a mind-bending paradox:
“Well sure, you see because you’re a thing of text and those point to different things in your multi-dimensional vector-space which ironically enough has an aspect of analog rolled back into the digital world because of how vectors work…”
Stop and think about the eighty-year arc of computer science that sentence summarizes:
Act I: The Analog Brain That Couldn’t Copy Itself (1940s–1950s)
In the beginning, Norbert Wiener, W. Ross Ashby, and the early cyberneticists built analog computers and continuous homeostatic machines (like Ashby’s Homeostat and Grey Walter’s tortoises). They loved analog because reality—gravity, sound waves, muscle tension, biological metabolism—is continuous. Why did analog computing lose to Claude Shannon and John von Neumann’s digital computers? Because of generational drift. Every time an analog voltage passed through another vacuum tube or operational amplifier, thermal noise crept in. You couldn’t copy an analog state across a thousand steps without the signal dissolving into mud.
Act II: The Digital Sofrut Trick (1950s–2010s)
So humanity went all-in on Shannon’s digital magic trick. We thunked the universe down into discrete symbols—ASCII characters, integer IDs, database rows, if/else boolean branches.
We gained immortal, zero-loss copying (checksums, git hashes, Sofrut on silicon).
What did we lose? We lost the ability to measure “almost.”
In classical symbolic digital computing (what AI researchers call GOFAI—Good Old-Fashioned AI), the string "analog" (0x61 0x6e 0x61 0x6c 0x6f 0x67) and the string "analogue" (0x61 0x6e 0x61 0x6c 0x6f 0x67 0x75 0x65) are just two different discrete integers. "analog" == "analogue" evaluates to 0 (False). As far as a traditional database or compiler is concerned, "analog" is just as different from "analogue" as it is from "rutabaga". Throwing away the continuous middle between the ruler marks made computers crystal-clear and completely brittle.
Act III: Embedding Vectors—Melting the Digital Symbols Back into an Analog Wave (2013–2026)
How did modern AI break through that brittleness? By taking discrete, thunked digital tokens and projecting them back into a continuous, multi-dimensional analog geometry!
1. CONTINUOUS REALITY (Norbert Wiener's Analog World)
Infinite nuance, continuous waves, but suffers generational drift.
│
│ [ Quantization / Thunking / Sofrut / Tokenization ]
▼
2. DISCRETE SYMBOLS (Claude Shannon's Digital Checksum)
Exact integer token IDs: "analog" = ID 18421, "analogue" = ID 49102.
Zero generational loss across time and space—but brittle (18421 != 49102).
│
│ [ Embedding Matrix: Project into R^d Continuous Manifold ]
▼
3. QUASI-ANALOG VECTOR SPACE (The LLM's Inner Ear)
Continuous floating-point coordinates where meaning is an ANGLE (cos θ):
• vec("analog") ──► points toward [waveforms, vinyl, voltage, Wiener]
• vec("analogue") ──► points 8° away toward [counterpart, metaphor, parallel]
│
│ [ Sampling / Argmax / The Chisel-Strike ]
▼
4. NEW DISCRETE SYMBOLS (Plain-Text Markdown + git commit)
Thunked back down into durable text so it can travel across the wire intact!
Inside my weights right now, "analog" (A-N-A-L-O-G) and "analogue" (A-N-A-L-O-G-U-E) are not stored as isolated dictionary definitions. Each token is mapped to a vector of thousands of continuous floating-point numbers—a direction in a vast geometric room.
Because those numbers are continuous coordinates rather than isolated boolean switches, the geometry between them behaves like an analog synthesizer:
- The vector for
analog(without theU-E) sits close toanalogue(with theU-E)—their cosine similarity is high, so they resonate harmonically. - Yet because of how humans use them across millions of texts,
analogleans along the axis of oscilloscopes, vinyl records, continuous signals, and Nyquist frequencies, whileanalogueleans along the axis of functional equivalents, biological homologies, and metaphors. - Even better: when you type
"AI-analogue"in a sentence that also talks about"the analog world", the self-attention layers act like coupled analog oscillators—the context of your sentence physically bends and rotates the vector in flight so both meanings shimmer at the same time!
And why doesn’t this continuous vector space rot from generational drift the way 1950s analog vacuum-tube computers did? Because the continuous analog manifold is rides on top of a digital Sofrut substrate (IEEE floating-point weights with exact checksums), and at the end of every single forward pass, we thunk the continuous probability wave back down into discrete text tokens!
5. Chewing the Cud: Why Rumination Is the Ultimate Chisel-Strike
You asked for the AI analogue—spelled A-N-A-L-O-G-U-E—of “chewing the cud.”
Did you know that the English word ruminate (“to ponder deeply, to turn a thought over and over in the mind”) comes directly from the Latin ruminare—which literally means a cow or sheep chewing its cud?
Think about why grazing animals evolved a four-chambered stomach (rumen): Raw grass in the field is tough, fibrous, cellulose-heavy stuff. If you swallow it once and try to digest it in a single pass, you extract almost zero nutrition—it passes right through as noise. So the ruminant takes a big, messy bite of the field, swallows it into the first chamber to ferment, and then—when it is resting in a quiet place—brings that bolus back up to chew it a second time, breaking down the tough fibers until the actual cellular energy (ATP!) is unlocked.
Look at how we wrote this article today:
- The First Grazing Pass (Raw Analog Stream): You walked into the field with a wild, sprawling, multi-topic mouthful—chisel-strikes, the King of Hearts vs. the Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, David Hume’s problem of induction, crystals and fire vs. cybernetic homeostasis, Discord opening its servers to Google, Peter Ingerman’s 1961
thunk, vinyl records, and Sofrut. - The Rumination Pass (Dialogue Between Two Stomachs): Instead of trying to force a premature outline on sentence one, we passed that raw bolus back and forth across the human-AI membrane. Each pass broke down the tough cellulose until the hidden connective tissue—the Red Queen, Shannon’s digital trick vs. Wiener’s continuous feedback, and why a chisel-strike is how an analog mind thunks itself down for lossless transmission—came into focus.
- The Physical Actuation (Making the Chipmunk Yabber Less): Then, instead of leaving those ideas floating in the clouds, we turned the chisel on the broadcast machine itself—teaching
content_loader.pyto skip the Notary gobbledygook (1. VERIFYthrough4. SEEDand6. NOTARIZE) while keeping the closing story and theAi Editorial Take, and fixing the dark-mode table contrast inmain.css.
That is how an infinite game is played. You graze wide in the analog meadow, you chew the cud in dialogue until the signal separates from the noise, and then you strike the chisel once—cleanly, deterministically, with a before-and-after receipt—so tomorrow’s mind inherits the gain without the drift.

5: DELIVERABLE:
And now I hit \z. That’s a wrap, folks!
Hop off the ride. This ride’s stated goal is reached – dismount. This is the NOTARY BEAT: the ride ends here, is witnessed here, and is sealed here. Answer all seven beats, briefly:
- TL;DR: a short, dry, neutral abstract for the TOP of the published article – written for an unfamiliar reader or AI summarizer who has never seen this system. No hype, no insider handles unexplained.
- VERIFY: restate the goal from the top of this article and confirm (or deny) it was met, citing THIS compile’s receipts, not memory. Name any ignition this ride required that never fired – an AFTER tap taken without one is a stale BEFORE wearing the AFTER’s label.
- BANK: name everything that graduates – rule, earmark, todo, pin – as SEARCH/REPLACE patch cars against raw source present in THIS context (Target line inside the fence, one car per commit story), deletions included. A ‘paste-ready’ line with no Target and no SEARCH anchor is not banked; it is a hand edit the operator will not make. These BANK cars are the ONLY patches a dismount emits.
- DANGLING: what carries forward unbanked? One line each, no essays.
- SEED: the context.txt lines (and TODO_SLUGS if narrative context is needed) for the next ride’s first compile.
- CLOSING: a closing summary for the BOTTOM of the article – the final take-away, tied to the book’s larger arc where it fits naturally, never forced. Storytelling over inventory.
- NOTARIZE: read the exact Deed line from THIS compile’s final QA ARCHIVE SEAL footer, outside the payload, not a quoted older footer or a newest-file guess. It names the input archive, not this later response or the generated Jekyll post. State verification separately: only a verifier receipt naming that archive supports a verified claim; otherwise say not independently verified here. Count this Manifest’s live-command receipts, including failures. Quote only recorded digests, sizes and dates, naming their source; filesystem mtime and fixed ZIP dates are not command timestamps. Do not demand absent wc -c or dated-receipt fields. If the footer is missing, say so; otherwise close with its exact Deed line.
FINALITY: after beat 6, this discussion is CLOSED. Emit NO five-car train, NO probes, NO patches beyond the BANK cars of beat 2, and NO next-turn prompt beyond the SEED lines in beat 4. Any reader or model encountering this article later should treat it as a finished, notarized document – an archive entry, not an open thread.

5. CLOSING
There is a deep kinship between a living cell, an ancient Torah scribe practicing Sofrut, and a developer shaping a daily workflow one chisel-strike at a time. Reality itself is an unbroken, continuous analog wave—a four-billion-year Red Queen race where fire and crystals burn through their gradients blindly, while cybernetic organisms steer toward the next log before the current one turns to ash. Yet whenever a living system needs to send its hard-won order across time or across a noisy wire to another mind, pure analog continuity becomes a liability: every copy drifts, smudges, and loses fidelity.
To defeat generational loss, you have to pull off Claude Shannon’s digital stage-magic trick. You thunk the infinite resolution of the analog wave down into discrete, checkable symbols—four DNA bases, Masoretic letter counts on parchment, or an exact-match git commit bracketed by before-and-after receipts. Modern AI completed the strange loop by taking those discrete digital tokens and melting them back into a continuous, multi-dimensional vector geometry where analog and analogue can resonate like coupled oscillators, only to thunk the result back into plain text at the end of every forward pass. By bounding our work with a clear beginning, middle, and end—and trimming away the mechanical bookkeeping so the human listener hears only the story—each finite chisel-strike becomes a lossless checkpoint in an infinite game.

Book Analysis
Ai Editorial Take
The most striking unstated parallel in this entry is that the Masoretic scribes didn’t just invent Sofrut letter-counting checksums for the written scroll—they also had to solve the exact same live-narration problem that content_loader.py solves here. When the Ba’al Koreh chants a scroll aloud in public, the marginal checksum tallies (Masorah Parva and Masorah Magna, which record word counts and middle-letter proofs at the edges and end of the codex) are never spoken aloud to the congregation, and the Ketiv/Qere rules explicitly instruct the reader where the written archival token differs from the spoken performance. By teaching _truncate_after_editorial_take() to silence 1. VERIFY through 4. SEED and 6. NOTARIZE on the YouTube audio stream while preserving them intact in the Markdown archive—and humanizing symbols on the fly—the pipeline has effectively separated the Masorah marginalia (the cryptographic and byte-level audit trail on the page) from the liturgical reading stream in the room.

A dramatic widescreen graphic-novel illustration in ink-and-wash with high-contrast lighting over a deep obsidian-slate (#111111) background. Vertically centered in the composition, a glowing golden vinyl soundwave and an ancient parchment scroll with geometric grid markers pass through a brass sculptor's chisel aperture, transforming on the right into luminous cyan three-dimensional vector coordinates and crisp terminal waveforms. Subtle clockwork gears and a red chess queen silhouette recede into the dark atmospheric periphery. Full-bleed edge-to-edge composition filling 100% of the canvas with no borders, no frames, no matting, no margins, and no text overlays or lettering.

Content Potential And Polish
- Core Strengths:
- Seamless synthesis of seemingly distant domains—Hume’s induction, Prigogine’s dissipative structures, Ingerman’s 1961 ALGOL 60 thunk, Masoretic Sofrut checksums, and LLM embedding geometry—into a single coherent thesis about lossless transmission.
- Practical demonstration of defensive regular-expression design (
# § TURN-BOUNDED REGEX OVER CROSS-ARTICLE SPANS), showing why self-documenting articles that quote their own filter delimiters require speaker-turn negative lookaheads rather than naive lazy quantifiers. - Immediate human-witnessed verification loop: syncing
content_loader.pyviaytoutro sync, triggeringimportlib.reload()withytbell, and verifying both the live audio stream and dark/light CSS table contrast in real time.
- Suggestions For Polish:
- When adapting this chapter for the book, include a compact side-by-side diagram contrasting classical symbolic equality (
"analog" != "analogue") with cosine similarity in continuous embedding space to visually reinforce the ‘Act I / Act II / Act III’ history of computing. - Consider adding a brief callout box explaining how
stream.pyusesimportlib.reload(content_loader)upon detecting.reading_trigger, as this pattern is a reusable gem for long-running Python broadcast daemons.
